Originally founded in 1969 by Robert (Bob) Chiarelli and Garry Guzzo, the firm of Chiarelli Guzzo began as a full-service firm in Ottawa’s west-end. The firm grew in size throughout the 1970s with the addition of new Partners including Kenneth Cramer, in 1978, and Hank Witteveen, in 1980.
In the late 1970s to early 1980s, Garry Guzzo and Bob Chiarelli left the firm to pursue political careers. Bob Chiarelli served as Mayor of Ottawa from 2000 to 2006, and was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1987 to 1997 and again from 2010 to 2018. Garry Guzzo served as a provincial court judge between 1978 and 1989, and was a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1995 to 2003.
The firm continued to grow through the 1980s with the addition of new lawyers, assistants and various other support staff. In 2014, Kenneth Cramer retired from the firm. His retirement was followed soon after by Hank Witteveen’s departure from the firm to pursue a position as a Deputy Judge in the Ontario Superior Court - Small Claims Division.
The current Partners include Ken Dunham and Dilshad (Dilly) Mohamed, who both joined the firm in 2014 and 2015, respectively, following time spent working in the high-tech industry.
At present, the firm Chiarelli Cramer Witteveen continues to operate as a boutique firm dedicated to serving the needs of Ottawa and its surrounding communities.
